Weeks before my birthday, I’ve been planning how to celebrate it since I’m far away from my family. Yes, I’m celebrating alone for almost 3 years already because I’m working here in Yangon. So, I’ve come up with the idea of why not have a hotel staycation. Actually, these are all I want for my birthday: cozy bedroom, swim on the pool, breakfast buffet and a casual drink. Now the next question is where? I have this one hotel in particular which I’ve visited already last year but only the coffee shop inside their shopping mall.
Located along the shores of the city-landmark Kandawgyi Lake also known as the Royal Lake, Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel is a fresh member and the first opening property of famous Wyndham Hotel Group in Myanmar. The surrounding views from the rooms of 20-floor hotel are simply stunning and spectacular over the tranquil Royal Lake and the golden Shwedagon Pagoda.
Now that we have a chosen hotel already, let me share my itinerary!
January 24, Friday – Yay! Happy day coz it’s my Birthday!
Woke up extra early because why not? Today is my birthday! Haha! I was allowed to do an early check-in at 10:00 am from the usual 2:00 pm hotel policy. Thanks to the lovely hotel manager that you will also meet as we go along…
Upon check-in, I was welcomed by a birthday greeting from the front dest officer. Awwww! That was sooooo sweet! And that made me more excited on what’s to come!
The hotel staff assisted in bringing my luggage to my room. Yes, I have this small luggage because sabi ko nga, I’ve prepared for this in a while. Haha!
Look what surprised me when I enter the room! Awwwww! My heart! They have managed to do this birthday set-up and I was really touched by the sweet gesture! Yay!
But wait, there’s more!
This is the deluxe room which got upgraded to a Kandawgyi Lake view. Yay! Don’t you just love my room view! Soooo majestic right?

After exploring the room, I went to the shopping mall just literally few walks aways from Wydham Grand Yangon Hotel. What to do next… Lunch time!
I had this Cheesy Beef Grielled Steak and Butterfly Pea Juice for birthday lunch at Black Canyon. Busog-lusog!
After few hours before I came back in the room, I checked the swimming pool. Tadah! A huuuuge swimming pool indeed! Yay! So, who’s excited for the next activity?
There’s only few people on the pool when I came back. And the reason for that… You’ll know in a while. Haha! But yes, I’m soooo excited for this birthday dip!
The moment I dipped my feet on the pool, I screamed a bit to my surprise! The water is too cold!!! Like freezing cold!!! Haha! So, maybe that’s the reason why there’s no one in the afternoon. What added more to that freezing feeling was the wind! Since I’m on the mood already for a swim, I guess I just need to do it! Haha! But it was literally a quick dip! Just few snaps and I’m off! I can’t stand on the feeling of being frozen at the water.
Next on the list is the birthday drinks! So, I decided to explore the lounge bar just beside the opposite side of lobby reception.
The Infinity Lobby Bar is too spacious and perfect place to just chill and unwind. Plus look! They also have an area for live band!
Enjoyed the live band’s performance who are also Filipinos! And they had this birthday song & greetings for me. Awwww! Thank you so much!
That night ended with unlimited videocalls to #OMGioFam and photo sharing of how we celebrated this special day. Even if we’re apart, this can never be another ordinary celebration. The overwhelming love from my family has what this day more extra special! Thank You Father God!
The next day, it’s time for the breakfast buffet! What’s an accommodation without this right? The SPOON Restaurant serves breakfast buffet from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. During that day, it was Chinese New Year in which you could notice on the decorations.
Here’s a bonus activity before I checkout… Since I didn’t enjoy much of my birthday dip, why not do a bathtub dip! Haha!
I must say and it’s very obvious that I really enjoyed this birthday staycation at Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel. It’s everything I’ve imagined the way I want it to be.
Would love to bring #OMGioFam here soon! I’m sure my kids will enjoy a lot same as what I did!
